Meet our new Principal
Incoming Principal of Rathkeale College
We are delighted to introduce Nick Oldham as the next Principal of Rathkeale College.
Nick joins us from Bredon School in the UK, where he has served as Headmaster since 2019. Throughout his tenure, he led a significant transformation of the school, strengthening its academic direction, growing student numbers, and building a strong, connected school community with a clear sense of purpose and belonging. During this time, the school also received national recognition, including The TES (Times Educational Supplement) – Boarding School of the Year.
Nick brings more than 25 years of experience across independent and state education, including senior leadership roles in a number of high performing schools throughout the UK. Across these roles, Nick has maintained a strong commitment to both academic achievement and the wider life of a school, including sport, co-curricular opportunities and pastoral care.
A highly approachable leader
Nick is known as a highly visible and approachable leader who places strong emphasis on relationships — ensuring that every student is known, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best. He values a school culture where high expectations are balanced with genuine care, and where students feel a strong sense of belonging.
Alongside his career in education, Nick has a strong sporting background. Before entering teaching, he played rugby at a high level, representing England through the age groups and captaining London Wasps at academy level. This experience continues to inform his belief in the role sport plays in building character, teamwork and resilience.
Governance experience
Nick also brings governance experience through his role as a Governor at Hartpury College and University, providing insight into pathways beyond school and the importance of preparing students for a changing world.
Nick is deeply committed to ensuring that every decision he makes as an educator is guided by a simple principle: that it would be good enough for his own children.
A strong advocate for the great outdoors, Nick is a passionate fisherman, hunter and has a passion for farming, outdoor education and the environment.
Nick is very much looking forward to joining the Rathkeale community and getting to know students, staff and families and the wider community.
